FPGA Design Engineer






Would you like to play an important role in product development, which is focused on light weight and high speed electric compressors, compromising three major items (electric compressors, power electronics and firmware)? And are you eager to contribute to the European challenge of becoming CO2 neutral in 2050?

Aeronamic has a strong focus on the in-house development of high-speed e-compressors as a core technology. Numerous applications for more electric aircraft are foreseen in the future such as fuel tank-inerting, air conditioning, cabin pressurization and cooling of electronics to name but a few. For all these applications, at the heart of the solution, is the high-speed e-compressor technology.

Vertical integration is a key value at Aeronamic. Therefore, the entire development of the e-compressor is done in-house focusing on the five (5) key technologies; design of the compressor stages; gas foil bearing and rotor technology; permanent magnet machine design; state-of-the-art electronic control units and lastly, advanced high performance motor control. The differentiator is taking rotational speeds to the extreme. Most designs exceed 100kRPM enabling extreme low weight designs.

Aeronamic had the advantage of starting big, being part of former mother company URENCO, which invented the world’s first ultra-centrifuge for uranium enrichment. That historic step set the bar for all of their achievements. They kept pushing on in order to reach higher ground. Now it’s your turn to take off, powered by their success.

Design Engineer
Uren per week



  • Design, develop, implement and test firmware;
  • Develop supporting software tools for testing activities;
  • Execute research projects that expand our knowledge of new technologies;
  • Write documentation required for the certification of the products and for the capturing of acquired knowledge.


  • MSc electrical engineering with at least 2 years experience;
  • Practical experience in FPGA firmware design, debugging and verification (use of different VHDL simulation tools and scripting);
  • Knowledge of the completion of multiple FPGA based designs with a preference for Xilinx architecture.
  • Experience with software development for supporting activities such as user interfaces, testing scripts, etc. is a pré;
  • Experience with model-based design and/or high-speed control algorithms is a pré;
  • Knowledge of design life-cycle and accompanying documents (DO-254 as an example)is a pré;
  • You are creative, enjoy challenges and are motivated to develop firmware and associated electronic hardware;
  • Your English communication skills are strong, both written and orally;
  • You are interested in the above topic and prepared to further develop this interest.
